Concord, Ontario – With the summer upon us, Aurium Pharma Inc. and Lacteeze Ltd. introduce the new natural strawberry flavoured chewable lactase enzyme tablets for children. Children’s Lacteeze is formulated for children between the ages of 2 to 12 suffering from lactose intolerance.

“This is the first of its kind in the market,” remarks Jenny Tsolis, Marketing Manager at Aurium Pharma Inc.

“To date, all of the lactase enzyme products on the market are geared for adults. Children’s Lacteeze makes it easy for kids to take because it’s in a chewable form with a natural strawberry flavour. For a child, it’s like eating a treat before dinner!”

Lactose intolerance is an inability to properly digest lactose, a sugar found in milk and other dairy products. Common symptoms include, bloating, gas, diarrhea and stomach cramping. A lactase deficiency begins between the ages of 2 to 7 although it can be present at birth or develop in infancy. Lactose intolerance is common and a normal consequence of aging. By adulthood, many people have approximately one tenth as much lactase as they had at infancy. Studies have ascertained that certain ethnic populations are more widely affected than others. A lactase deficiency may affect as many as 70%-90% of Asian, African, Native American and Mediterranean populations.

Roman Forys, Managing Director, Central Canada at Aurium Pharma Inc. also emphasized that “the dosage is just right for children and our product enables children to enjoy dairy food without the discomfort.” Children need calcium for proper bone development. Since milk and dairy products are a main source of dietary calcium, it is important not to avoid this food group. Yet studies indicate that children lack proper diary absorption. Parents of children with lactose intolerance tend to reduce milk intake rather than supplement with lactase enzymes. However, this is no longer necessary.

Each tablet in Children’s Lacteeze contains 3000 FCC lactase units, is completely gluten free and is Kosher certified.

The dosage requirements are one to two tablets to be taken just before consuming dairy foods such as milk, ice cream or cheese. The dosage can be adjusted to suit the child’s needs.

Children’s Lacteeze is currently available at PharmaPlus, Lawtons, Superstores, Hy & Zels, Zellers and Loblaws.

Also distributed by Aurium Pharma Inc. is Extra Strength Lacteeze. Also provided in chewable tablets for easy absorption, this product is geared for adults to prevent the symptoms of lactose intolerance.
